Environmental Technology 2 - Fall 2021
The design intention behind this lamp is to create a structure that alludes to the suspension and weightlessness of light, in balance with a heavy mass that grounds it to the Earth. The design concept is inspired by hot air balloons, and designed in a way to make the lantern seem as if it rises off the base through the warmth of light. The design is also inspired by Noguchi's "Akari" light sculptures, where I utilized the materials and methods of construction from traditional Gifu construction of paper lanterns.
It is a small table lamp for the bedside table or any surface in a low lit environment. The intended use of this lamp is to create ambient lighting composed of soft, amber light that alludes to the quality of fire in traditional paper lanterns.
